Law enforcement dismantled an explosive device found in a residential area earlier that afternoon, Parsons police said.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, a citizen called and reported a suspicious object in the 2700 block of Dirr to the Parsons Police Department. An explosive field-testing kit showed the device, found in the driveway of a vacant home at 2715 Dirr, to have explosive material. The Kansas Highway Patrol Hazardous Device Unit collected and dismantled the device at a safe location, according to police Lt. Jason Ludwig.
