R&B band to play Thursday

Jamie ‘J Love’ Chase will bring funk soul and R&B to Seaton Family Pavilion on Thursday.

A Kansas City funk, soul and R&B band is next up in the Music in the Park free concert series.

The J Love Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seaton Family Pavilion at Forest Park.

The band touts itself as one of the hottest funk, soul and R&B bands in the Kansas City area, with J Love and her talented musicians generating energy and excitement everywhere they perform.

Jamie “J Love” Chase is joined by band members Jerrod Foutes, bass; Clarence Smith, percussionist/drummer; Paul Roberts, trombone and piano; and James Isaac, saxophone. Their repertoire primarily consists of classic soul and R&B music from legendary artists such as Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Etta James and many others. In addition, the group is capable of performing instrumental jazz.

Matt Hoisington, city of Parsons events and media director, said he just kind of stumbled across the J Love Band when looking for acts for the Music in the Park series. He was looking at an R&B band out of St. Louis, but it didn’t work out. Looking for a similar band, he found some live videos of the J Love Band.

“And I really liked what they were doing,” Hoisington said.

He said the J Love Band is one of the most popular bands in the Kansas City area. The group probably is not familiar to many in the Parsons area because they usually stick around the K.C. area. The J Love Band regularly performs at The Phoenix in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and the Soiree Bistro at 18th and Vine in K.C. among other venues.

Music in the Park is organized by the city of Parsons and Labette Community College with sponsorship from CST Storage. Concessions will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. In case of severe weather, the concert will be relocated to the Parsons Municipal Auditorium.

Bench seating and picnic tables will be available for the concert, but individuals are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. No alcoholic beverages or glass containers are allowed in the park, and smoking is restricted to designated areas.
