Parsons High School students will participate in Pick It Up Parsons, the annual community work day, starting at 8 a.m. May 1. Community volunteers are still needed to help with this beautification project.
Volunteers of all ages should meet at the Parsons High School gym. Community volunteers should enter through the west door. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
The cleanup is organized by SEK Point of Pride, the Parsons Chamber of Commerce and USD 503 this year.
For the first year of the event, Megan Hughes and Eweleen Good looked at key areas of the city that needed special attention and marked them (color coded) on a city map. Cleanup is not limited to these areas.
In the past some companies have joined in by picking up the areas near their businesses.
The last two years, map areas were cut out and pasted on 4-by-6 colored cards then handed to each group assigned to a specific area.
This year, the maps have been printed on half-sheets of colored paper (right). Eric Swanson, PHS principal, and sponsoring teachers will assign these areas to student groups first. Areas not assigned to student groups will be given to community volunteers when they meet at PHS at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 1. Businesses and other volunteer groups are encouraged to wear company or group identifying T-shirts.
