OSWEGO — The USD 504 Board of Education Tuesday voted 6-0 for sixth grade students to be moved from Neosho Heights Elementary School to Oswego Junior Senior High School beginning with the 2021-22 school year.

“So the junior high will be going from about 130 kids to 160 kids, and Neosho Heights building will be going from about 200 kids down to about 170 kids,” Superintendent Douglas Beisel said. “It’s going to be a better balance of students and staff.”

Parents were notified by letter of the move and through social media.

“Most of the response was very positive in favor of the move. We had several faculty members — five teachers — show up and two parents last night,” Beisel said.

He said the board felt it was a positive move, that it made sense and that it was the right thing to do for the students.

“Any time you make a move you just hope to make the right decisions, and we think administrative and from the board’s standpoint, it’s the right move for kids and staff. Let’s hope it pans out,” Beisel said.
