Parsons police arrested a parole violator Wednesday evening after a brief foot pursuit.
At 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Brice Dickens and Officer Connor Eichinger saw Deandres Marques Green, 31, of Parsons walking in the 1800 block of Main. Dickens recognized Green and was informed by dispatch that Green had an active felony warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections for a parole violation, according to a release from Parsons police.
Officers stopped Green and explained that he had a warrant for his arrest. Green ran and Officer Eichinger gave chase. The pursuit went north into the 1700 block of Washington Avenue, where Green was tased by other responding officers and taken safely into custody.
After the arrest, officers searched a black fanny pack that Green was wearing. The fanny pack contained a 9 mm pistol, pills, a crystalline substance and drug paraphernalia. The pills were ID’d as Oxycodone hydrochloride and the crystalline substance tested for methamphetamine. The drugs are being sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigations (KBI) crime lab for official identification, police said.
Police are holding Green on suspicion of interference with law enforcement, possession of a stimulant, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon.
“This is a great arrest for Officer Eichinger and Sgt. Dickens,” Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said in the statement. “I am glad this ended safely as any time you take a weapon off of a suspect you start to play the ‘what if’ game in your head. You never know what the mindset is of a criminal that you are chasing. This could be the day they decide not to go to jail under any circumstance and this situation could have ended badly. I am grateful it did not. More importantly, we were able to take more life-ending substances off our streets, and for that I am proud of our officers.”
Green was listed on the KDOC website as a parole absconder as of mid-November 2022. He had been imprisoned for drug charges.
This continues to be an ongoing investigation and citizens are encouraged to “see it, hear it, report it.” If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060, call the tip line at 421-7057 or email tips@parsonspd.com.
