People gathered in Glenwood Park on Saturday to celebrate Juneteenth with a cookout. The celebration took place one day after Juneteenth as rain canceled Friday’s activities. Juneteenth honors the emancipation of those enslaved in the United States. Slaves in Texas learned of emancipation June 19, 1865, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation and two months after Lincoln died at the hand of an assassin.
