- Ray Nolting/Sun photo

Members of the Labette No. 9 Fire District attempt to disconnect the battery of a pickup involved in a collision with a deer late Tuesday afternoon on 26000 Road west of the intersection with U.S. 400. The deer rolled onto the hood and slammed through the windshield and back window of the vehicle, injuring the driver in the process. The deer ended up in the bed of the pickup. The deer may have collided with a westbound vehicle before impacting the eastbound pickup.
