Forester Ryan Neises (left), owner of Ecotone Forestry, Ottawa, and Josh Morgan, conservation biologist, plant shrubs Monday afternoon at the Southeast Research and Extension Center in Parsons. The no-till tree planter attached to the back of the tractor allowed them to plant about 50 shrubs in minutes. The planter opens the ground, allowing trees or shrubs to be planted and closes the ground. Ecotone Forestry was performing the work for the Kansas Forestry Service. Neises and Morgan also planted a variety of trees at the center located at 25092 Ness Road near U.S. 400. They used several species and a few planting techniques on the test ground that will be used later to make recommendations to private landowners in the same watershed.
