Main Break

City of Parsons employees (from left) Jake Walker, Anthony Camus and Troy Houghton work on prying off a utility cover on Stevens Avenue near North 25th Street on Tuesday. They had to shut a valve in order for others to repair a broken water main line, one of two discovered Tuesday following another at the old water treatment plant on Sunday night that caused low water pressure throughout the city. Subzero temperatures have caused the breaks. The cold weather also has caused issues with city equipment, lengthening the time of repair. Snow covering the streets also makes it more difficult to find utility covers, which are frozen shut. A gofundme.com page was created for donations to the city water department employees who spent long hours in the cold repairing the first main break on Monday. Eighty-four people had donated a total of $3,230 toward the $5,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon.
