Burning Grass

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism burned about 350 acres of brush and grass on Thursday at the Grand Osage Wildlife Area at Great Plains Industrial Park east of Parsons. The fire is approaching a 5-acre pond in the area. Rob Riggin, Grand Osage wildlife manager, said about 1,000 acres have been intentionally burned so far this year to spark new growth of native grass and another 1,000 acres will be burned.
