Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ybarra
Linda Michelle Serrato and Matthew Jose' Ybarra were married on Saturday, May 26, at the Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles. Monsignor Kevin Kostelnik officiated.
Parents of the bride are Ruben and Rafaela Serrato of Chino, Calif. Parents of the groom are Jesse and Peggy Ybarra of Altamont.
The wedding party included bridesmaids Heather Kirk of Overland Park, Amy Holt of Los Angeles, Samantha Chiuppi of Chino, Calif., Ane Romero of Washington, D.C., Terri Nikole Baca of Albuquerque, N.M., Jeunee Simon of San Francisco, Calif., Kendra Arimoto of Menlo Park, Calif., Natalie Ramirez of Austin, Texas, and Angie Reckart of Rome, Italy.
The groomsmen were Ian Ybarra of Boston, Mass., and Quentin Ybarra of Durham, N.C., both brothers of the groom, Ruben Mark Serrato of Mountain View, Calif., Gabriel Serrato of Washington D.C., both brothers of the bride, Joel Eberhart of Lawrence, Sean O'Brien of Manhattan, Rascal, the wonder weenie dog, and Trotski, Linda's fabulous mutt.
The ushers were Nicholas Lauricella of New York, N.Y., Melissa Kamura of Stanford, Calif., Ardalan Tajalli of Chicago and Edwin Navarro of Davis, Calif. The three flower girls were Emily Aceves, Kalia Whitney and Maddie Godinez.
The liturgy included a reading from the Old Testament by Devon Armstrong, a responsorial psalm by Charles Lane and a reading from the New Testament by Rachel Phillips. The lighting of the family candles was conducted by the mothers of the bride and groom. The marriage lasso was sponsored by Ruben and Chara Ruvalcaba, the bride's godparents, and the groom's grandparents, Everett and Joanne Babcock of Dearing. The Bible and rosary were sponsored by Lori Eberhart of Dennis.
In conjunction with the Lady of the Angels Cathedral community service policy, two courtesy baskets for the homeless and poor were offered by the fathers of the bride and groom. The offertory gifts were presented by Yuritzy Anaya and Oscar Peraza. Serving as holy communion eucharistic ministers were Sergio Rosas of Los Angeles and Christopher Resto of Chicago. Presentation of the flowers to the blessed Virgin Mary was by Mary Lou Alarcon, aunt of the bride.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Samuel Soria.
The reception took place at the Los Angeles Union Station with a performance by the Stanford University Hermanos Mariachi Band. A Kansas reception will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Labette County High School Cafeteria in Altamont.
Mrs. Ybarra graduated from Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Los Angeles, in 2003. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in public policy from Stanford University, Stanford, Calif., in 2007. She is employed by Obama for America as the California press secretary in Los Angeles.
Mr. Ybarra graduated from Labette County High School, Altamont, in 2004. He graduated with honors from Stanford University with a bachelor of arts degree in comparative studies in race and ethnicity in 2008. He is employed by the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., as an admissions counselor.
The honeymoon night was spent at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. An extended honeymoon trip to Paris and Spain will be taken in December. The married couple are at home in downtown Los Angeles.
