Nutrition and budgeting class at Cherryvale

CHERRYVALE — Families Eating Smart and Saving Money is a four-lesson series on nutrition, budgeting and physical activity that will begin on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Cherryvale Public Library. The time will be 6 to 7 p.m.

The goal is to engage adults to participate in activities that encourage healthy eating and saving money. The behavior goals that the participants will focus on are the following: — Eating more meals at home.

— Stretching the food dollar.

— Eating healthy when eating out.

— Moving more every day. All classes are free and include a recipe sampling each week.

Straight Away band at the VFW

Straight Away band will perform Saturday night, Nov. 16, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Brown-Bishop Post 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Straight Away is one of the premier bands in Southeast Kansas and will play classic rock. You do not have to be a member to attend this performance. The cost is a $10 donation at the door.

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 4 p.m., children’s craft; 6 p.m., paint and sip.

TUESDAY: 10 a.m., sensory story hour for ages birth to 3; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.

WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m. story hour for ages 2 to 6; 4 p.m., story hour.

THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 3 p.m., bingo for adults; 4 p.m., Minecraft Club for teens; 6 p.m., Thanksgiving craft for all ages.

FRIDAY, Nov. 22: 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.

Genealogy research still available

Genealogy/family history research assistance will continue to be available during the Parsons Museum and Historical Society’s off-season schedule, from November to April 2025.

The research assistance dates for walk-ins will be on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month, 1 to 4 p.m., when the museum is open on Dec. 7 and 8, Jan. 4 and 5, Feb. 1 and 2, March 1 and 2 and April 5 and 6. The museum will resume its regular season hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m., on May 2, 2025.

Parsons Livestock Auction

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,060 cattle.

Choice cows 125-131, canners- cutters 117-124, shelly cows 116 and down, bred cows up to $2,500, pairs up to $2,925; choice bulls 160-178, lower grades 159 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 315-367; 400-500, 260-345; 500-600, 257-325; 600-700, 200-290; 700-800, 230-260; 800 and over, 215-247.

Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 220-289; 400-500, 225-293; 500-600, 215-284; 600-700, 205-260; 700-800, 180-248.50; 800 and over, 160-229.

Fundraiser for tumbling is Saturday

Parsons Tumbling and Trampoline will have a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Forest Park in Parsons. The day will feature bounce houses, face painting, games, food trucks, vendors and a tumbling showcase.
