
GALESBURG — Patrick E. “Pat” Smith, 70, of Galesburg, passed away at 7:55 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Labette Health Emergency Room.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1956 in Parsons to Herman J. and Gertrude V. (Callahan) Smith. Pat grew up in Galesburg and Cherryvale and graduated from Labette County High School.
After high school he worked as a traveling welder before starting to work at Tec Tank, A.O. Smith and CST Storage. He also was a farmer and cattle stockman. Pat was a loving father who loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
He and Tonya L. Taylor were married on Dec. 6, 1980 in Parsons, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Jason “Smitty” Smith of Thayer and Ryan Smith of Galesburg; his grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Waylon Smith and Case Smith; his siblings, Bob Smith of Tulsa, Bill Smith of Cherryvale, Mike Smith of Cherryvale, Linda Essig (Tim) of Parsons and Gary Smith of Cherryvale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Melissa Smith and Mindy Smith who along with their mother passed away on July 10, 1996; brothers, Jim Smith and Dan Smith; a sister, Shirley Smith; and Ryan’s fiancé, Shania Lewis.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 19, at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Thursday with a Rosary starting a 10 a.m. before the funeral service. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul.
