MCCUNE — Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg.
He was born on July 16, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Donald T. and Marilyn L. (George) Ewbank. Gary grew up in Paola and Parsons and attended schools there graduating from Parsons High School in 1970. He attended Parsons Junior College where he received an associate’s degree in psychology.
Gary worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center briefly before beginning a long career in the beverage and food distribution industry. He worked for Slayman and Valley beverage distributor as a sales representative. He then became an owner/operator of a Little Debbie snack cake distributorship across southeast Kansas. Gary was known as the “Little Debbie Dude”. He retired following 19 and a half years of dedicated service to his customers.
Gary was a caring, hardworking, generous person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed visiting casinos, being outside, and watching a good rainstorm from the comfort of his garage. More than anything though, he loved his grandchildren— they were truly his world. Some of his happiest moments were spent with them, and he cherished all of the time he shared with his children and grandchildren.
Gary and Stacy York were married on Jan. 30, 1993, in McCune, Kansas. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, Stacy, Gary is survived by his three children, Dustin Ewbank, and his wife, Mindy Taylor of Harlingen, TX, Cristi Hothan of Wichita, and Kalee Shanholtzer, and her husband, Chayse of McCune; six grandchildren, Grayson Hothan, Isla Hothan, Weston Shanholtzer, Walker Shanholtzer, Whitlee Shanholtzer, and Damon Davis; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Bowen, his father, Donald T. Ewbank, stepfather, Theon Bowen, and his brother, Donald E. Ewbank.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at the McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
