P. Charlene Wallingford

OSWEGO — P. Charlene (Eads) Wallingford, was born Jan. 4, 1938 in Oswego, the only child of Charlie F. and Jennie (Gaston) Eads.

She was raised in Montana Township, attended grade school there, then graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont. She worked for Curry Investment Co. in Oswego.

In April of 1959, she married Clyde E. Wallingford in Oswego, KS, and moved to Wichita where two daughters were born, Carol and Cathy. They moved back to southeast Kansas in 1964; farmed for eight years and then moved to Oswego in 1972. She worked as an administrative assistant for Atlas Industries and Farm Bureau Insurance Co,. They moved again to New Strawn, Kansas in 1985, and lived there until Clyde retired in 1995 from Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant. They made their retirement home in Grove, Oklahoma. Clyde preceded her in death Feb. 15, 2003. Among her interests were camping with family and friends; traveling with a Travel Club in Grove, cross stitching; and she was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority from 1971 to 2020 in McCune, Oswego, Burlington, and Grove, which she absolutely loved, along with her sorority sisters. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Jennie Eads; and her husband Clyde.

Survivors are daughters Carol Eddington (Ron), Cathy Gilbreth (Stephen); grandson Chad Eddington (Sally); Colton and Remi; granddaughter Jessica (Eddington) Belew (Rudy), Carter, Rowan, and Kai.

She was totally devoted to her family. Her grandkids were devoted to her and her great grandkids loved their GG.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home. Cremated remains will be buried in Oswego Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1:30 p.m., during a Memorial Service hosted by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, in care of the funeral home, and may be mailed to Derfelt Funeral Home, 203 Illinois Street, Oswego, KS 67356.
