Below are the upcoming events at the Parsons Public Library.
Monday, Feb. 23: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.: AARP Tax Preparation Assistance; 3 p.m.: Online Trivia opens; 4 p.m.: Children’s Craft for ages 5-10; and 5 p.m.: Line Dancing for all ages.
Tuesday, Feb. 24: 4 p.m.: Anime Club for teens; 4 p.m.: Children’s Paint N’ Sip for ages 5-10.
Wednesday, Feb. 25: 3 p.m. Online Trivia closes; 4 p.m.: Let’s Play! for ages birth-5.
Thursday, Feb. 26: 4 p.m., Switch Freeplay for teens. Friday, Feb. 27: 4 p.m., Let’s Cook! for teens; 6 p.m. Regular Library Hours are Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; and closed on Sunday.
Prairie Dog Alliance
Prairie Dog Alliance will be host a meeting for the public on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Parsons Public Library to discuss the federal and state laws already in place concerning the project at Great Plains Industrial Park; the specific Executive Order that is driving the Deep Fission project; and the roles of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy in the project.
Founder Marjorie Reynolds will meet with the public at the Parsons Public Library during open hours this Tuesday.
Southeast Kansas Audubon Society
The Southeast Kansas Audubon Society will meet on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Bob Gress of Wichita, will give a presentation on his new book. He is a well-known bird photographer and author. He has teamed up with Pete Jensen to produce a new book on Kansas birds.
The meetings are held at the Parsons Arboretum, at 2004 Briggs Ave. at the corner of 21st and Briggs in Glenwood Park in Parsons, Kansas. All persons interested in learning more about the natural world are invited to attend. For more information call 620-779-0830 or 620-779-2090, or 918-977-1502.
Storm Spotter Training
Labette County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service of Wichita will present a Storm Spotter Training at 6:30 p.m. on March 9, in the Parsons Memorial Auditorium. The event is free for the public and open to all ages.
Parsons Livestock Market
Here is the latest Parsons Livestock Auction report: 1400 cattle were sold Wednesday, Feb. 11. Choice cows 167-178, canners- cutters 158-166, shelly cows 157 and down, bred cows up to $4,900, pairs up to $4,800, choice bulls 187-200, lower grades 186 and down.
Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 545-720; 400-500, 440-635; 500600, 410-545; 600-700, 380-460; 700-800, 322-401; 800 and over, 310-360.
Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 480-600; 400-500, 405-555; 500600, 390-490; 600-700, 335-418; 700-800, 319-374.5; 800 and over, 250-338.
