Jeanette Ann Harris

ST. PAUL — Jeanette Ann (Doub, Hoffman) Harris passed away peacefully at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul on Feb. 2, 2026 after a year-long illness.

Jeanette was born on June 21, 1940, at Girard Hospital to John Paul and Eleda (Bass) Doub of Walnut, Kansas. She spent her first 18 years growing up in her beloved City of Walnut among family and friends. She was a member of the last graduating class of Walnut High School in 1958, before the school closed permanently. She was a Walnut High School cheerleader, played cornet and drums in the school band, and was a member of the Rainbow Girls.

In 1960, she married James “Fred” Hoffman in Topeka. They had a daughter, Pamela, and a son, James. They later divorced. On Feb. 18, 1978, she married David E. Harris in Erie, Kansas. This marriage blended David’s two children, Todd Harris and Tracy Harris, and a cherished bonus daughter, Angie Hadley.

Jeanette previously worked at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and later at the law office of Hines, Ahlquist & Creitz, both in Erie.

She was a member of the Erie Federated United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jeanette was a wonderfully creative, free-spirited individual with an abundance of compassion and empathy. She truly cared about others, especially her husband, David. She had a wide array of talents. She cherished spending quality time with her friends and family, keeping her loved ones close to her heart. She was a talented card-maker and a member of the “Sassy Sisters” scrapbooking group. She also enjoyed working with stained glass, playing the dulcimer, and practicing the lost art of tatting. She was a member of the local “Stitch and Bitch”.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Harry Bird, and two nephews. She is survived by her husband David E. Harris of Erie, Kansas, brother John Paul Doub, Jr. (Judy) of Wichita and stepbrothers David Bird (Gail) of Mesa, Arizona and Gary Bird (Anna) of Saint Genis Poully France; a daughter, Pamela Suarez (Carlos), of Cape Coral, Florida, a son, James Hoffman (Sylvia) of Bronson, Kansas; a stepson, Todd Harris, a stepdaughter, Tracy Harris, of Pittsburg, Kansas and a cherished bonus daughter, Angie Hadley of Pittsburg, Kansas, four grandchildren: Heidi Houston (Anthony Santanostasi), of Parker, Colorado, Ashley Edwards (Aaron), of Millikin, Colorado, Crystal Martin (Chad), of Ottawa, Kansas and Dominic Cavitt (Taylor), of Pittsburg, Kansas. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and several cousins.

Interment will be at the East Hill Cemetery in Erie. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Harry Hynes Hospice or the Erie Federated (Methodist) Church.

As “I have had many good times filled with giggles and laughs. Life has been good thanks to all of you,” — Jeanette.
