The Labette Community College (LCC) Foundation and Alumni Association is pleased to announce the establishment of the Wall Family Scholarship, made possible by a gift from Gary and Shirley Wall. Their generosity is being amplified through the Pete and Mary Hughes Matching Pool, which provides a 50% match, increasing the total endowed scholarship impact.

The Wall family’s decision to establish this scholarship reflects a longstanding, multigenerational connection to Labette Community College. Over the years, LCC has played an important role in the educational journeys of members of the Wall family, creating a deep appreciation for the college’s mission of access, opportunity, and student success. This gift is a meaningful way for the family to give back to an institution that has been part of their story across generations.

Inspired by the philanthropic legacy of their longtime friends, the late Pete and Mary Hughes, the Walls’ gift reflects a shared belief in the power of education to transform lives and strengthen communities. The Hughes Matching Pool was created to encourage donors to establish new endowed scholarships ensuring longterm support for LCC students while multiplying the impact of each contribution.

Gary and Shirley Wall do not seek public recognition for their generosity, but they have graciously agreed to allow the LCC Foundation to share this announcement in hopes that it will inspire others to follow their example and help meet the growing financial needs of students.

“Gary and Shirley’s decision to invest in our students speaks volumes about their values and their belief in education,” said Lindi Forbes, Executive Director of the LCC Foundation and Alumni Association. “Their gift, combined with the Hughes Matching Pool, creates a lasting legacy that will support LCC students for generations to come. We are deeply grateful for their willingness to let us share their story so others might be encouraged to join them.” Endowed scholarships like the Wall Family Scholarship provide annual support to students while preserving the principal in perpetuity, ensuring a continuous source of assistance for future Cardinals.

The Hughes Matching Pool remains available for donors interested in establishing endowed scholarships at LCC. Those wishing to learn more about the matching opportunity or how to create a lasting scholarship legacy are encouraged to visit www.labette.edu/foundation or contact Forbes at [email protected] or 620-820-1212.
