
Charles David “Dave” Shelton 88, long time Parsons resident, died at 3:08 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026 at Labette Health. He had been in failing health.
He was born Oct. 14, 1937 at Wellington, Missouri, a son of Joseph A. and Elma A. (Miller) Shelton. He grew up and attended school at Lee’s Summit, Missouri graduating from the Lee’s Summit High School in 1955. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served three years before his discharge. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he was an insurance and real estate agent. He later worked at Elko Photo.
While working at Elko Photo, he met Marie E. Tremaine and they were later united in marriage on Aug. 29, 1963 in Miami, Oklahoma.
The couple later lived at Grandview, Missouri, where Dave began working at Power Flame. They moved to Parsons, Kansas with the company in the 1970s. Dave worked as a quality assurance manager for many years, retiring in 1993.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church at Parsons and had served on the Trustees Committee. He was also a member of the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved motorcycles and enjoyed painting and playing golf. He also enjoyed playing pool, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: His wife – Marie E. Shelton, of the home; one son – Dave Shelton, Jr., of Coffeyville, Kansas; two daughters – Karen Clinton, her husband, Dan, of Parsons, and Angie Shelton, of San Juan del Rio, Mexico; five grandchildren – Nathan Sullivan, and his wife, Hailey, of Rose Hill, Kansas, Morgan Sullivan (Victoria Barnett), of Parsons, Sydnee Sullivan, (Zach Larsen) of Erie, Kansas, Logan Shelton, of Topeka, Hunter Tyler, and his wife, Bailee, of Tulsa Hills, Oklahoma; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother – Joseph Alvis Shelton, Jr. on July 2, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Ball officiating. Military Honors will be given by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will be in the Belton Cemetery, Belton, Missouri at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
