At the Library
Below are the upcoming events at the Parsons Public Library.
Tuesday, Jan. 27: 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10-18, and Children’s Paint and Sip for ages 5-10.
Wednesday, Jan. 28: Online Trivia closes at 3 p.m.; 4 p.m.: Let’s Play! for ages birth-5.
Thursday, Jan. 29: 1 p.m., Let’s Color! For adults and teens and 4 p.m., Switch Freeplay for teens.
Friday, Jan. 30: 4 p.m., Let’s Cook! for teens. Regular Library Hours are Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; and closed on Sunday.
Bartlett Community Church
The Bartlett Community Church will host a Sunday Country Breakfast on Sunday, Feb.1. Breakfast will be served from 7:309:30 a.m. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet menu will feature homemade sausage gravy served with biscuits, hash browns, scrambled eggs, egg casseroles, ham, sausage, fresh fruit, breakfast sweets, donuts, homemade cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice, and milk. Donations will be accepted to support the ministry and mission work of the church. The public is invited to attend.
Carryout will be available for those that do not want to dine in. The church is located at 712 Main on the south side of Bartlett. In case of severe weather conditions, you can call 620-423-1789 or 620-778-4635 to check for cancellation.
Southeast Kansas Democratic Socialists of America
The Southeast Kansas Democratic Socialists of America will hold a hybrid meeting for in-person and virtual attendees on Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at 1929 Crawford Ave. #3, Parsons.
PACF accepting grant applications
The Parsons Area Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications from eligible organizations, with applications open through Jan. 31.
The annual competitive grant program is designed to support organizations that are making a meaningful impact in Parsons and the 25-mile surrounding area. Schools, churches, government entities, and IRS recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofits may apply.
“We are proud to invest in the work of nonprofits that strengthen our community,” said Becky Dantic, PACF Executive Director. “These grants help organizations continue and expand programs that address local needs and create lasting change.”
Eligible nonprofit organizations are encouraged to review application guidelines and submit proposals by the Jan. 31 deadline. Grant awards will be announced in April.

Parsons Livestock Market
The Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1688 cattle last Wednesday. Choice cows 162-172, canners-cutters 155-161, shelly cows 154 and down, bred cows up to $3,300, pairs up to $4,200, choice bulls 208-225, lower grades 207 and down.
Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 350-547; 400-500, 475-540; 500 600, 390-522; 600-700, 360 448; 700-800, 323-383; 800 and over, 325-345. Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 390-505; 400-500, 380-475; 500-600, 350-455; 600-700, 312-392; 700-800, 260-331; 800 and over, 290-323.
