Labette blasts Barton, Fort Hays Tech in duals

Hosting Fort Hays Tech and Barton in a tri-dual on Wednesday, the Labette Cardinals beat both of their opponents.

Labette battered Fort Hays Tech, 45-3, and Barton, 52-5.

In the dual against Fort Hays Tech, the Cardinals got pins in the first two bouts with Jackson Martin (125 pounds) and Jordan Cullors (133) notching victories.

Tucker Collinsworth of Labette then earned a 7-6 decision over Nathan Bailey at 141 pounds.

Kyler Tabor won the 149-pound bout with a pin of Owen Younger, which Labette’s Kalvin LaPlant followed up with a pin of his own against Kyle Yazzi at 157 pounds.

Fort Hays Tech got its lone victory in the dual at 165 pounds with Braxton McAvey taking an 11-9 decision over Jais Rose.

Labette won its next four matches with Roger Mendoza (174) pinning Parker Farr, Aiden Cisterna (184) winning at an open weight, Chance Meggs (197) taking a decision over Aukbir Ramazan and heavyweight Gage Wingerter winning a 5-3 decision over Jayden Shannon.

As for Labette’s dual over Barton, Martin, Cullors and Collinsworth all earned pins at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, to start the action for the Cardinals.

Tabor secured a major decision over Brennen Pfannenstiel at 149 pounds before LaPlant pinned Gabe Swoyer at 157 pounds.

At 165 pounds, Fernando Dominguez won at an open weight for Labette.

Mendoza, at 174 pounds, pinned Barton’s Derek Truman.

Barton’s lone win in the dual came at 184 pounds with S-Ron Hill notching a technical fall over Cisterna.

Justice Hield won at 197 pounds via open weight for Labette, while Wingerter pinned Keyven Schroeder at heavyweight.
