Independence stayed perfect on the season, improving to 8-0 as they took down the Parsons Vikings girls, 5031, on Tuesday night in SEK League action.
“I feel like for our team to get going, we need production out of the entire group,” Parsons head coach Erik Lyons said. “We need everybody to be aggressive. We were on our heels tonight and didn’t get into it the way we needed to be. After coaching the game, I don’t think there was a big disparity in talent. Indy just got after it more than us. That made it an uphill battle.”
Parsons gave up a slew of second-chance points to the Bulldogs, stunting runs the Vikings had.
“I feel like rebounding is just as much positional as it is effort,” Lyons said. “Tonight, we got exposed with our effort. From my vantage points, I saw black jerseys jumping two, three, four times for a rebound. A lot of little things like that made a difference.”
Brooklyn Mattix and Kaylea Lemos each led the Bulldogs with 14 points apiece.
Ayanna Robertson paced Parsons with a dozen points.
“In the last two games, she’s been consistent,” Lyons said. “She can push to 20, 25 points. But she’s a worker. She wants great things to happen for this program and the team. She’ll keep getting better. When that switch flips, it’s going to be hell for the league.”
Parsons fell to 2-7 overall with the loss.
