
Babara Schmid, 78, life-long Parsons resident, died at 6:11 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1947 at Parsons, a daughter of Frederick Louis and Sarah E. (Amrine) Schmid. Barbara grew up and attended schools in Parsons before graduating from high school from Labette County Community High School. She later attended Labette Community College. Over the years, Barbara was employed at Individual Mausoleum, Adventure Line, Parsons Precision Products, Day and Zimmerman (Kansas Army Ammunition Plant), Executive Auto Sales, and Howerter’s Appliance until retiring.
Barbara was active in many of her daughter’s activities, including being a Girl Scout leader and attending many sporting activities and games.
Barbara bowled over the years. In 2000, Barbara’s bowling team finished in first place at the Kansas Women’s State Bowling Tournament in Topeka, Kansas.
Barbara also enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, knitting and embroidery. Her biggest passion and love was quilting. She made numerous quilts over the years. Barbara was a past member of the Quilters Guild of Parsons.
Barbara was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and especially loved #87 Travis Kelce. Another pastime was watching the KC Royals.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jackie Schmid, of the home; a cat, R.J., who adopted them, of the home; an aunt, Betty Schmid, of Parsons, who started as a friend at quilt guild and eventually became family; A sister in law, Susan Schmid, of Northeast, Maryland; several nieces and nephews, Susie Schmid of Elkton, Maryland; Mary Schmid, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Gary Wolgamott (Lovina), of Pittsburg, Kansas; Bill Wolgamott (Connie), of Parsons; Jim Wolgamott (Bobbi), of Denton, Texas; Sharon Wolgamott, of Parsons; Judy Nance of Parsons; Beth Jackett (Doug), of Chanute; Along with many great nephews & nieces and extended cousins.
Barbara had a special place in her heart for some of her great nephews: Anthony Wolgamott (Maisie) and their children Paige, Remington and Evelyn of Denton, Zack Wolgamott (Hydee) and their son Arthur (Artie) of Parsons, Luke Wolgamott (Paige) and their daughter Georgia of Oswego, and Bryan Jackett of Chanute. Barbara also had a couple of bonus daughters: Cindy Hearson and Charlotte Lamb.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings: Dr. Reverend Vernon L. Schmid, Margaret Baumdicker, Joy Wolgamott and Juanita Hallman and a great-nephew Jonathan Wolgamott.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m, Friday, Jan. 16, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Jackett officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Friday.
