CHERRYVALE — Honoring the 25th anniversary of the wrestling program on Thursday, the Cherryvale Chargers hosted a set of duals against Humboldt and Erie.
Cherryvale won both boys duals while the girls programs competed in exhibition matches.
“Winning is always nice,” Cherryvale head coach Casey Lickteig said. “When we get to have anything at home, it’s nice to promote our kids when they get that opportunity. It’s more special to do it in front of former wrestlers. It was a very special day.”
Cherryvale also held a ceremony for former coaches and wrestlers.
“I was coached by two of the guys who came out,” Lickteig said. “It was one of those things where I got to see what this program is built on. It’s a generational thing.”
Caleb Slane earned a pair of pins for Cherryvale.
“He wrestled a really good kid from Humboldt and they’ve had tough matches before,” Lickteig said. “He had to battle through adversity. That’s how it goes. I really appreciate him.”
