The Labette County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of individuals coming to the jail after receiving phone calls from unknown persons claiming that an inmate could be bonded out in exchange for a specified amount of money. These calls are fraudulent.
Be advised of the following important information regarding inmate bonds: — A bond must be set by a judge, or it must be authorized under an established bond schedule, before an inmate may be released.
— If you have questions about whether an inmate has a bond, you should contact the Labette County Jail directly to verify that information.
— The Labette County Jail does not accept Walmart gift cards, prepaid cards, or other non-cash equivalents as payment for bonds.
— When a bond is legitimately set, the inmate will typically contact a licensed bail bondsman or a family member to arrange bonding.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspected scam calls to local law enforcement. If you receive a call demanding payment to secure an inmate’s release, do not provide money or personal information and contact the Labette County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
