INDEPENDENCE — The Independence Lions Club urges the public to join in a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Jan. 10 to raise funds for a needed community resource.
The club’s first-ever benefit spaghetti dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Wesley Center, 111 E. Maple.
A heaping plate of spaghetti with bread, salad, dessert and drink will be available for a suggested donation of $10 per person. Donations will be taken at the door.
All funds will be used to assist the club in one of its most ambitious projects in recent decades. The Independence Lions Club is raising money to assist in the purchase of a new walkin freezer for the Community Access Center, which provides food to residents in Montgomery and Wilson counties. The new freezer will replace an existing freezer that has surpassed its lifespan.
The Independence Lions Club has applied for grant assistance through Lions Club International, which has funds to assist local chapters with food scarcity issues. Other Lions Club chapters in Montgomery and Wilson counties have agreed to donate funds toward the project.
The benefit dinner falls on the week that has been deemed by Lions International as Lions Hunger Week of Service. Lions Clubs across the world are spending this week preparing meals for the needy, or assisting local resources to curb food scarcity in their communities.
