Valerie L. Scott, 66 of Parsons, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025.
Valerie was born on Jan. 15, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Warren and Novice (Braden) Burrows. She spent her childhood in Mobile, Alabama, before moving to Kansas where she graduated from Columbus High School in 1977.
Throughout her life, Valerie dedicated herself to serving others. She worked at Class Ltd in Columbus, the Youth Crisis Shelter in Parsons, served as a rural mail carrier in the Scammon and Weir areas, and began her long and meaningful career at SKIL in Parsons in 1996.
At the time of her passing, she was still proudly employed as the Community Inclusion Coordinator — a role that perfectly reflected her compassionate heart and commitment to inclusion and care.
Valerie was known for her selflessness and kindness, always willing to do anything for anyone in need. She truly touched the lives of everyone she met. She loved her family fiercely and found her greatest joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories.
Valerie often referred to herself as “an angel within,” a phrase that captured her gentle spirit and giving nature.
She adored angels, had a signature love for leopard print — rarely leaving the house without it — and could often be found cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs until her voice was hoarse.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Maranda Scott (Tony Adamson), Caleb Scott, and Allie Jones; her grandchildren, Meadow Kocour (Tobin), Emma Novak, Marlow Scott-Adamson, Mason Scott-Adamson, Macaul Scott-Adamson, Maisy Scott-Adamson, Marcony Scott-Adamson, and Lawson Cope Scott; her great-granddaughter, Stella Rhynerson; her sister, Saundra Jacobs (Kenny); her brother, Richard Burrows (Debbie); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Novice Burrows; her sister, Patricia Pierce; and her brother-in-law, David Pierce.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Newton officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Columbus.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Valerie Scott Grandchildren’s Educational Fund and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
