ST. PAUL — Suffering three lopsided losses at the Mark Terlip Classic in St. Paul, the Chetopa Green Hornets boys fell to 0-4 on Saturday with a 61-6 loss to Plaza Heights Christian Academy.
“It was tough. We started out strong and played some solid defense,” Chetopa head coach Marcus Smith said. “But after the first quarter, we reverted to what’s been getting us killed. Mental errors shot us in the foot and took us out of the game.”
On Thursday, Chetopa lost to Caney Valley, 104-25.
Jackson Lawellin led the Green Hornets with nine points against the Bullpups while Harrison Carter added eight points.
The Riverton Rams took down the Green Hornets, 7317, on Friday.
Lawellin had six points for Chetopa.
“There’s a lot of promise in this team,” Smith said. “We have low numbers, so we just have to keep practicing and grinding. I’m confident we’ll get going when January rolls around.”

Chetopa heads north to face Oswego on Tuesday.
“We have to have mental discipline and stay the course,” Smith said. “We have to follow directions and play simple ball. We’ll keep fighting. If we play smart, we’ll have a shot in some of these games.”
