ST. PAUL — Losing three games at the Mark Terlip Classic in St. Paul, the Oswego Indians boys’ early season tournament ended on Saturday with a 75-42 loss to the Caney Valley Bullpups.
“We played a lot better and the guys are starting to figure each other out,” Oswego head coach Steve McBrien said. “The guys are starting to figure each other out. We’re building a whole new chemistry. We lost four seniors. So the guys haven’t played together much. And we’ve gotten better. These tough teams will help us for league play.”
Oswego fell to Riverton, 58-32, on Thursday. Owen Jackson led Oswego with 11 points.
On Friday, Plaza Heights Christian Academy beat Oswego, 57-40.
Jackson again led Oswego with 10 points.
As for Saturday’s loss, Jackson posted 14 points while Demitri Williamson added 10 points.
“We’ll have five guys on the floor that can shoot, dribble and play defense,” McBrien said. “We don’t have a true inside guy to go to, so we have to be able to take people off the dribble.”
Oswego is 0-4 to start the year, with two losses to CNC League schools.
“I don’t look at the score. I look at how we perform against teams like that,” McBrien said. “Can we stay on the floor with them? We want to compete regardless. That’s what I’m looking for. That’s what will get us wins in league play and prepare us for sub-state. We’ve got to be ready and there’s no sense in hiding.”
