ALTAMONT — The Kansas Department of Transportation will host a public open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, on proposed improvements to U.S. 160 in Montgomery and Labette counties. The meeting will take place at the Altamont City Park Building and Community Center, 620 S. Wabash.
No formal presentation will take place at the public meeting, but project exhibits will be available for review. Project staff will be on hand to answer questions, and public input is welcomed. The U.S. 160 improvements project is in the discovery phase.
See PUBLIC, Page 5.

It is not funded for design or construction, and public input will help KDOT determine the best path forward.
The project’s goal is to improve U.S. 160 from Gartner Avenue at Altamont west to U.S. 169. The project scope includes widening driving lanes, improving existing curves and adding shoulders along the corridor.
Three options are being considered for the western corridor of the project area: South Alignment Alternative: Shifts the U.S. 169 connection one mile south of existing intersection.
Current Alignment Alternative: Maintains the existing alignment and improves curves to meet current design standards. This would tie into U.S. 160 improvements near the Bartlett soybean processing plant. North Alignment Alternative: Shifts the U.S. 169 connection one mile north of existing intersection and ties into the existing interchange. This alignment would generally follow County Roads 4400 and 5700.
Information presented at the open house will be available online for review, and public comments will be accepted at ksdot. gov/US160-Improvements between Dec. 11 and Dec. 29.
If you need special assistance at the meeting, please contact KDOT Division of Communications at 785-296-3585 (Voice) / 711 (Hearing Impaired). Requests should be made at least three days prior to the meeting to provide adequate time for KDOT to schedule accommodation services.
