CHEROKEE — At a special board meeting held on Monday, Nov. 24, the board approved holding a hearing— required by law—to consider the closure of the 1916 Main Building in Weir. The hearing will take place on Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Southeast High School auditorium. This is an open meeting and the public is invited.
If the board votes to close the building following the hearing, the current grade configuration will remain in place for the time being: PreK–2 at SES, grades 3–8 at SMS, and grades 9–12 at SHS.
The board will continue to have discussions about the best long-term configuration for the district and will further examine the costs and considerations associated with the options presented over the past few months. The goal is to determine a clear path forward in the near future.
