Luvonne Hucke

MOUND VALLEY — Luvonne Hucke, 92, of rural Mound Valley, passed away peacefully at 4:26 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21, 2025.

She was a lifelong resident of Labette County, born on July 11, 1933, in rural Bartlett. She grew up on a farm there, met her husband, Merle Hucke, at the Coffeyville Refinery, and moved to Mound Valley in 1962, where they farmed and raised their four children.

She and Merle were married for more than 50 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Mound Valley and a supportive member of the community.

She and her five sisters and brother raised their families together, shared farm life, cooking, storytelling and the occasional bus ride to the casinos in their golden years. In retirement, she volunteered for hospice and played the piano while Merle played the fiddle with the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers.

On their farm in Mound Valley, she helped Merle plant, milk cows, and raise cattle until their children were old enough to pitch in. On any given day, she could bale hay, butcher and roast a chicken with all of the trimmings, and make sure you still had room for dessert.

Once their children could help on the farm, she went to work for Labette County Medical Center, now Labette Health, where she retired 25 years later. Even after Merle passed in 2005, she continued to live on their farm, tending the garden and mowing the lawn into her 90s.

She was a woman of many talents, many friends, and a deep love of family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters and brother. She is survived by her four children Brenda McMahon, Chris Hucke, Raymond Kelly Hucke, Teresa Wille, their spouses, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Mound Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The visitation will be at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons on Monday, Dec. 1, from 7-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the United Methodist Church of Mound Valley, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 112 N. 26th St., Parsons, KS 67357. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
