Thursday evening, shortly after 5 p.m., a pickup truck caught fire on 17th Street, in between Main Street and Broadway, just outside of City Hall.

The owner of the vehicle said she believes the issue was caused by the horn.

“My truck has a train horn in it. It has an air compressor. I pressed the air compressor to toot that I was coming through, and I heard a pop. Then all of a sudden, I started seeing flames and I stopped,” Holly Spiker, the vehicles owner said.

Spiker was traveling with her dogs, and said she quickly retrieved them from the vehicle, then called the fire department.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. Parsons Police Department and Parsons Fire Department responded to the call and extinguished the fire.

“The fire had started in the back, and it spread pretty fast before she could get it put out,” said Sergeant Charles Brown of the Parsons Police Department.

No injuries occurred during this incident.
