PRAIRIE VILLAGE — Kadence Ball of Parsons and Lucy Pearson of Labette County were both eliminated in Day 1 of the single bracket at the KSHSAA 4A Girls Tennis State Championships on Friday.
Ball fell one match shy of earning a medal, while Pearson went two-and-out.
Earning the No. 14 seed, Ball won her first match over Tatum Vanderbilt of Wamego, 6-2, 6-0.
Maryn Sandbo, the No. 3 seed from McPherson, then took down Ball, 6-3.
On the backside of the bracket, Ball defeated Aubrey Koehn of Hesston, 8-3, before losing to Lana Hull of Hayden, 8-4, ending her season.
As for Pearson, the No. 22 seed for Labette County, she fell to Hull in the first round, 6-0, 6-0, then to Sarah Veile of Independence, 8-0.
