A familiar face will soon be leaving Community National Bank and Trust after two decades of service to the community.

Keith Butler has been the president for 20 years, but will retire at the end of October. He and his wife, Brenda, a retired school teacher, look forward to enjoying their retirement in the community.

“Really, I enjoyed the customers; the relationships that I’ve had throughout those 20 years,” Butler said of his career.

Butler said he also enjoyed being involved with the community through the Parsons Chamber of Commerce and various social clubs, like the Parsons Rotary Club.

“My favorite part is having had the opportunity to meet all the great people who I’ve worked with as customers,” Butler said.

Of his retirement, Butler said he already knows some of the things he will do in his newfound free time.

“We’re going to spend more time with grandkids outside of the community. We want to do some traveling, and we’re just planning on staying busy,” Butler said.

Incoming President Shawn Carter and Butler find a similar joy in helping customers.

“I enjoy the part of my job where I get to help people. That’s probably the most enjoyable part about my job — to help them achieve their dreams and goals,” Carter said.

Carter has been a part of the Parsons community for over 25 years. Carter said he and his wife, Jill, raised their family here. He has also served the community as a volunteer firefighter and as a member of multiple civic organizations.

Carter comes to Community National Bank and Trust with 16 years of local banking experience and a passion for lending.

“I’m glad to be back in the Parsons community again, and I’m excited for the opportunity to work for a great local bank again,” Carter said.

Carter highlighted that he enjoys working for local banks because they have a positive impact on their communities. Community National Bank and Trust supports local schools, civic organizations, and charities through involvement, monetary contributions, and networking.

Of the staff, Carter said that there was a good core team.

“They’re local people. They are invested in the communities. They all live and work here; they have the same interests as the customers we serve,” Carter said. “If we can do anything in this bank, in this town, in this industry — it’s going to be to set ourselves apart in service. All banks pretty much offer the same products. It’s the people that make the difference.”

To Carter, the people the bank serves also make a difference.

“When we can help people do the things that they are trying to do, it makes us feel like we’re a part of their family. We’re on their team,” Carter said. “You get to know people over the years, you get to know their children, their grandchildren, their spouses.”

Carter said that it would be impossible to replace Butler, but he hopes that he can continue to provide customers with a level of service that makes them feel that they have made the right choice choosing Community National Bank and Trust.

The community can stop by the bank at 330 N. 16th St. in Parsons to extend their congratulations to Keith Butler the afternoon of Oct. 29. A formal announcement will be made at a later date. To learn more about Community National Bank and Trust, visit www.mybankcnb.com.
