Parsons city commissioners met briefly on Monday and approved the purchase of a used van and a self-propelled sewer camera for $104,350.
The city now has an older trailer that holds a 2012 Cues sewer camera. The camera, used to inspect main sewer lines, is broken and would be expensive to repair.
Derek Clevenger, director of utilities, said the refurbished 2020 Envirosight sewer camera housed in a 2019 Dodge ProMaster van would cost $127,850. The camera has 1,000 feet of cable with it,

which allows it to go between manholes, Clevenger said.
The company allowed a $23,500 trade allowance for the city’s current camera setup. This dropped the purchase price to $104,350.
A new camera and van would cost $260,000, Clevenger said.
The camera and van purchase were part of the consent docket for the commission, which includes a list of action items that are approved with one vote. Key Equipment and Supply Co. is selling the equipment to the city.
Commissioners also approved a resolution for an emergency water supply agreement with Labette Health. The agreement is required by the hospital’s accrediting organization.
