Playing to a draw after mounting a massive comeback, the Parsons Vikings tied with the Fort Scott Tigers, 4-4, on Tuesday afternoon in SEK League boys soccer action.
Parsons trailed, 3-1, at halftime before coming back to take a 4-3 lead in the second stanza.
“We came in too confident after we beat them once,” Parsons head coach Jose Ramirez said. “They thought it was going to be an easy game. But I knew (Fort Scott) would come back from revenge. We weren’t the same team.”
Fort Scott drew first blood in the first half in the 16th minute when Kaydan Russell booted the first of his two goals.
Mikey Manners equalized for Parsons seven minutes later on a penalty kick.
The Tigers responded with two goals over the next four minutes — one apiece from Russell and Oswen Larsen.
In the second half, Manners netted his second goal in the 46th minute.
“I’m glad he scored because he had a drought,” Ramirez said. “He was having some confidence issues. But he’s a freshman to watch. He’s got it. He’s a well-rounded player that showed it. He can put the ball in the back of the net.”
In the 54th minute, Jamar Watkins scored on a breakaway to pull Parsons level. The Vikings then claimed the lead with a goal from Keigan Marrow.
In the 76th minute, Fort Scott equalized with a free kick from just outside the penalty area.
“They caught us off guard,” Ramirez said. “They took advantage of our goalie trying to direct our defense and they caught the near post. Our wall wasn’t quite set up. And Fort Scott executed it well.”
Parsons moved to 1-7-1 on the season while Fort Scott moved to 0-10-1.
