Steven W. ‘Steve’ Souders

CHETOPA — Steven W. “Steve” Souders, 73, of Chetopa passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at his residence.

Steven Wayne Souders was born on Jan. 19, 1952, to Homer “Wayne” and Mary Francis (Martin) Souders in Parsons. He attended and graduated from Labette County High School, Class of 1970.

He was a farmer by profession, but operated Steve’s Radio in the off-season. This led to a love of working on electronics throughout his life. He worked on CB radios, installed and repaired large satellites and later taught himself to work on computers.

Steve received a soil conservation award in 2014 for his notill soybeans of which he was very proud.

When he wasn’t working, he did enjoy working on cars, playing piano and learning new systems to implement on his work interests. Steve’s health had been failing since he had a stroke in 1999.

On Oct. 27, 1973, Steve married Patricia Sue “Patty” Carnahan in Altamont. She survives of the home.

He is also survived by a son, Brian Souders and his wife, Laci, of Green Forest, Arkansas; a daughter, Crystal Akin and her husband, Josh, of Anderson, Missouri; four grandchildren, Bill, Joanie and Bobby Hayes and Stevie Souders; and two sisters, Mary Beth Hartley of Welch, Oklahoma, and Teresa Wheeler and her husband, Greg, of Chetopa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Eugene and Juanita Carnahan; and a son, Scott Souders.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Friends may call from noon until 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in Chetopa.

The family suggests memorials to Chetopa High School FFA. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
