Dominating the pitch in their second win of the season, the Chanute Blue Comets bested the Parsons Vikings, 6-1, in SEK League boys soccer action on Thursday.
“We had a lot of individuals playing well in individual moments today,” Chanute head coach Adam Wilcox said. “We were creative in spurts. We do a lot of things really well in spurts.”
After a scoreless first 15 minutes of the match, Chanute poured in four goals in the first half to take command of the match going into the break.
“We took ourselves out of the game,” Parsons head coach Jose Ramirez said. “Instead of taking responsibility for our mistakes, it was easier to point a finger. The team chemistry went down the drain from there.”
Junior midfielder Alex Ogle netted three goals for the Blue Comets.
“They were all hustle goals today,” Wilcox said. “He had a hustle hat trick. They weren’t skillful, technical goals. He ran to the right spot and did the right things. That’s what’s most important.”
In the second half, Parsons etched its lone goal off the boot of Kayshawn Johnson.
“It was unexpected. Kayhawn being in his first year ever playing soccer,” Ramirez said, “it’s a lot of pressure to put that ball in.”
While Chanute scored two more times in the second half, Wilcox felt his squad took the foot off the gas.
“In the first half, we came out with intensity,” Wilcox said. “But we stopped winning those first balls in the second half. I got after them after a convincing win because Parsons raised their intensity, and we dropped ours.”
Chanute improved to 2-5 overall with the win while Parsons dropped to 1-4.

The two teams meet again on Thursday in Chanute.
“Our focus is on our intensity,” Wilcox said. “We beat them 6-1 and we were the better team. But Parsons outworked us in the second half. That’s not OK from our perspective.”
