The Parsons Arts and Humanities Council presents “Views from Under the Brim,” an art show featuring the works of Lorraine Evert.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Carnegie Arts Center, 117 S. 17th, Parsons, to coincide with the Parsons Chamber of Commerce sponsored PK Art Fest, which will include art, demonstrations, music, food and special events in downtown Parsons. Other public exhibit times for Evert’s work are 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 5-7, at the Carnegie.
Evert was a child when she discovered her love for creating art. Using resources on hand (a No. 2 pencil and scraps of paper), she started drawing. While living in Nebraska in the early 70s, she joined a local artist guild, which offered a few mini-classes and held juried shows. These opportunities helped her learn and begin her journey as an artist.
She moved to Southeast Kansas in 1976 and continued painting, entering her works in county fairs and local art festivals. In 1988, her painting hobby slowed due to work demands and other interests. She painted more frequently after retirement in 2020 and donated most of her work to charity fundraisers. She’s ready to focus on painting more pieces to help pay for her plethora of art supplies.
“It’s not hoarding if it’s art supplies, right?”
