otes Lake board to meet

The Parsons Lake Advisory Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Parsons Arboretum, 21st and Briggs. This is a public meeting.

Walk for diabetes awareness

The Parsons Lions Club and the Rector Diabetes Center are sponsoring the annual Strides Walk for Diabetes Awareness on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Forest Park.

The event starts at 8 a.m. with a fundraiser breakfast hosted by Labette Health, Cardinal Station and the Lions. Donations will contribute to diabetes awareness initiatives and provide scholarships for diabetes camps. The walk starts at 9 a.m. starting at the Seaton Family Pavilion led by the Diabetes Support Group & Friends.

After the walk, activities include a pickle ball clinic by Brad Smith at the tennis courts, a kids yoga session by Brienne Cunningham and a zumba class at the pavilion.

St. Vincent’s plans sack sale

St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1122 Main, will have a $5 sack sale next week.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18-19, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 20.

MONDAY, Sept. 15: 3 p.m., online trivia for all ages beginning and closes at 3 p.m. Sept. 17 (access our trivia game on our website (parsonslibrary.org) or Parsons Public Library Facebook page); 4 p.m., Story Hour for ages 7-10; 6 p.m., family craft for all ages.

TUESDAY, Sept. 16: 10 a.m., Sensory Story Hour for ages birth to 3; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10-18.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 17: 10 a.m., Story Hour for ages 2-6; 3 p.m., online trivia closes; 4 p.m., afternoon Story Hour for ages 2-6.

THURSDAY, Sept. 18: 1 p.m., let’s color for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens.

FRIDAY, Sept. 19: 4 p.m., Let’s Cook for teens.

Branson bus trip planned

BARTLETT — The Bartlett Community Church is hosting a bus trip to Branson, Missouri, on Friday, Oct. 24. The trip will include a visit to the Sight & Sound Theatre to experience the story of David and an evening meal after the show. Anyone interested in the trip can call Pastor Lane Roberts at 417-3350555 for additional details and cost information. Registration deadline is Sept. 14.

Job fair coming to Parsons

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) is hosting a Together Kansas community resource and job fair in Parsons on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the First Baptist Church, 1621 Main St.

Together Kansas in Parsons is sponsored by the Parsons Chamber of Commerce and First Baptist Church. This event provides residents from Parsons and surrounding areas the opportunity to connect with members of the community and explore local resources and job opportunities.

The event in Parsons is one of three Together Kansas events remaining for 2025. Upcoming events will be in Kansas City and Topeka.

Knights of Columbus benefit breakfast

ST. PAUL — Knights of Columbus Council 760 – St. Paul-Walnut-Erie — is hosting a benefit breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at St. Francis Parish Hall, First and Lafayette, in St. Paul. The cost is a free-will donation and proceeds will be directed to a 26-year-old Erie man, Aaron Yarnell, who is battling a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Breakfast will include sausage, eggs, hot cakes, biscuits and gravy and an opportunity for a friendly round-table visit.

Forestry field day

CHERRYVALE — The Kansas Forestry Association will have its fall field day from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Philip Eastep property, 4742 County Road 5800, Cherryvale. The property features research sites, trails, a tree farm and columbarium. The site is located in the Cross Timbers ecosystem.

Presentations will include the forest legacy program, Cross Timbers, forest to mill to kiln, the carbon credit program and conserving forest ecology.

Parsons Livestock Market

The Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,200 cattle Wednesday. Choice cows 161-174, canners-cutters 155-161, shelly cows 154 and down, bred cows up to $3,300, pairs up to $4,400, choice bulls 200-213, lower grades 199 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 385-610; 400-500, 370-472; 500600, 385-455; 600-700, 300-385; 700-800, 328-388; 800 and over, 301-349.

Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 350-555; 400-500, 380-425; 500600, 300-415; 600-700, 325-375; 700-800, 317-334; 800 and over, 250-313.60.
