ERIE — For the first time in school history, Erie hosted a cross country meet on Saturday. Runners from Erie, Southeast and Uniontown competed.

“When you host a meet for the first time, it is expected that the meet will be small,” Erie head coach Kyle Carpenter said. “It takes time for visiting schools to rework their schedules and for word of your meet to spread. That was certainly the case for this meet, with only three schools attending and 25 runners competing. However, despite the small crowd, it was a great day for cross country. With sunshine, perfect temperatures, and a light breeze, we couldn’t ask for more on a September Saturday morning.”

In the boys race, Southeast’s Zayne Gabern won with a time of 18:45.

Erie’s Isaac Myers placed fifth with a time of 21:25. “Isaac has shown great potential through his freshmen seasons of cross country and track,” Carpenter said. “We look forward to seeing what hard work and consistency can do with all that potential.”

Erie’s Anthony Pasquarelli was sixth (21:33). “Anthony has shown consistent improvement in every event he raced through cross country and track. He is an extremely hard worker and very dedicated to always giving his best. He is poised to pop off this season and stun us all,” Carpenter said.

As for the girls’ race, Southeast’s Kendyl Renn won, posting a mark of 24:37.

Erie’s lone runner, Annie Myers, finished seventh with a time of 30:33.

“While not the result we wanted, I am proud of her for finishing,” Carpenter said. “Annie has had some struggles with her running lately, but she is determined to keep working at it and get back to where she once was. She will need to dig deep this season and show a lot of resilience in the face of disappointment. She will be a great example to the team of how not to give up when things get hard.”
