On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Parsons Police Department hosted its second annual Guardians of the Greens Charity Golf Scramble at the historic Katy Golf Club. The event was another milestone for the department’s Police Legacy Fund, which continues to expand its impact on youth and community programs.
In addition to supporting the endowed Parsons Police Legacy in Leadership Scholarship at LCC for college students, this year’s scramble also allowed the Legacy Fund to make a charitable donation to the Parsons High School golf team. Members of the team and Coach Paul Duroni accepted the donation from Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks and officers of the department.
“There is no greater feeling than being able to invest in the future of our city, our youth,” said Lt. Jason Ludwig. “We promised the public that we would support young people whenever possible. The scholarship was our first major step, and helping the Parsons High School Golf Team is another. The Legacy Fund is about securing opportunities for the next generation, our legacy.”
The day was filled with camaraderie, laughter, and spirited competition as teams made their way through 18 holes. Players and volunteers enjoyed lunch along with creative side contests, including the always-popular Toilet Bowl Chipping Challenge and a Beer Goggle Putting Game, which demonstrated the effects of impairment on coordination. Lt. Kyle Wiford noted that the activity carried an educational message: “It’s a fun way to show how impairment can seriously affect vision and performance.”
Generous sponsorships made the event possible, with prizes awarded for Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and even a Hole-in-One challenge for a brand-new Kawasaki Mule. While only a few took home prizes, Chief Spinks emphasized that the true winners were the youth and citizens who benefit from the donations raised.
