
EDNA — Linda (Merwarth) Scovell, longtime Edna resident, passed away at 7:42 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, at Pittsburg Health and Rehabilitation, where she had resided for nearly two years.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1939, in Parsons to Charles and Vera (Goodrich) Merwarth. Linda graduated from Parsons High School in 1956 and later from Parsons Junior College.
She married Jay D. Scovell on June 30, 1961, in Altamont. After marriage, they moved to North Carolina before locating to Edna in 1970. She worked for 10 years as the Edna city clerk and for 20 years as a relief postmaster for the United States Postal Service. She served many years on the Edna City Council and had served as mayor a few of those years. She also was a dispatcher for the Edna Volunteer Fire Department.
Linda was an avid reader, enjoyed watching game shows on television and working with stained glass. She enjoyed watching and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
She was a member of the former Faith Baptist Church in Edna. Survivors include her daughter, April Arbuckle of Edna; a granddaughter, Angela Inlow and her husband, David, of Dewey, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Thomas Inlow, Samantha Inlow, Devon Inlow and Jesse Inlow, all of Dewey; her brother; Howard Merwarth of Brady, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Scovell in 2013; two sons, Scott Scovell and Wes Scovell; a stepdaughter, Tammy Scovell; and a brother, Bill Merwarth.
The service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Carson- Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery.
