Two Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) projects to reconstruct portions of U.S. 59 in Parsons will begin the week of Sept. 15.
One project will reconstruct a segment of North 16th Street in Parsons near Walmart. The other will reconstruct a segment of South 16th Street in Parsons near the Little Labette Creek bridge.
Both projects will allow for a smoother road surface. The road will remain open during construction but be reduced to a single lane in each direction, using the shoulder.
The projects were awarded to Mission Construction of St. Paul for a bid of just over $3 million. They will be finished in the spring of 2026, conditions permitting.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For updates on construction projects in Southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/ southeast-kansas-projects.
