
THAYER — Jack W. Dyke, 84, of Thayer passed away at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at the Girard Medical Center in Girard.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1940, at Thayer to George and Elsie (Modesitt) Dyke Jr. Jack grew up south of Thayer in the Dennis area, where he attended schools and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 until he was honorably discharged in 1961.
Jack returned to Thayer, where he married Kathryn E. “Kathy” Holtzman on Nov. 15, 1964, at the Thayer Christian Church. She survives in Chanute.
He worked for Chanute Manufacturing for 35 years as an assembler.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by two sons, Les Dyke (Vicki) of Joplin, Missouri, and Faron Dyke (Sheila) of Thayer; his daughter, Joy Duncan (Shane) of Topeka; his brother, Charles Dyke (Linda) of Centerton, Arkansas; his sisters-inlaw, Mary Dyke of Dennis, Sandy Dyke of Thayer and Marlene Dyke of Bella Vista, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Dalton Dyke, Dylan Dyke, Ian Lee, Tosha Duncan; his great-grandson, Tylin Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Dyke, William Dyke, Eugene Dyke and Robert Dyke.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Travis Modisett officiating. Burial will be later in the Thayer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.
