CHERRYVALE — A rural Cherryvale woman drowned in a pond on her property on Sunday, Aug. 24, according to law enforcement.
About 4 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews responded to a possible mowing accident at a pond at 406 21000 Road on the west side of Big Hill Lake.
Arlene F. Lowmaster, 75, apparently was mowing around a pond on her property and for an unknown reason drove into the water, according to Sheriff Darren Eichinger. Eichinger said Lowmaster was pinned under the mower in about 30 feet of water when a rescue crew from Bentonville, Arkansas, recovered her body.
Besides the Labette County Sheriff’s Office, other crews responding included Cherryvale and Parsons Fire Department and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
