
PECK — Don P. Merritt, 84, of Peck passed away at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, in Oswego at the home of his brother, Kurt Merritt.
Don was born on Feb. 21, 1941, in Oswego to Orlo W. and Mildred E. (Everitt) Merritt. He grew up near Montana, Kansas, and attended country schools and Labette County Community High School, graduating in 1959.
He lived in Lincoln for a short time before he moved to Wichita and worked for over 40 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a material inspector. After his retirement from KDOT, he moved to Peck. He married Dyann Engel on Jan. 3, 2008. They enjoyed time with family and friends and traveling. She preceded him in death in December 2022.
Don loved to hunt and fish and was an avid and accomplished bowler, almost bowling a perfect game with a score of 299. He participated in bowling leagues until his health declined earlier this year.
Don is survived by his brothers, Gary Merritt of Russell, Kent Merritt and his wife, Michelle, of Parsons and Kurt Merritt and his wife, Bonnie, of Oswego; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Merritt.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Car-
son-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Jennifer Dawson ovci ating. Burial will follow in the Sherman City Cemetery near Oswego. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
