Authorities arrest suspect in Uniontown for Saturday death in Stark

Law enforcement arrested a Uniontown man on suspicion of first-degree murder for a death Saturday night in Stark.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the Saturday evening death of Scott Stevens, 65, of Stark.

At 6:43 p.m. Saturday, a 911 caller reported a disturbance at a residence in Stark, and Neosho County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 307 S. Washington.

When deputies arrived, they observed blood on the front porch. They later found  Stevens. The investigation led to identifying the suspect as Luke Shepard, 45, of Uniontown. Shepard had left scene and was later arrested by the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office at his home without incident.

The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance at 8:51 p.m. on Saturday. KBI agents and Crime Scene Response Team responded.

Shepard was transported to the Neosho County jail and booked on first-degree murder. Formal charges are pending.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing. Nothing further will be released at this time.
