Kansas State Research and Extension is hosting Dining with Diabetes, an evidence-based program designed to empower individuals living with type 2 diabetes, those with prediabetes, their caregivers and anyone interested in adopting healthier lifestyle habits.
The curriculum focuses on diet, lifestyle behaviors and self-efficacy skills essential for effective diabetes self-management.
Participants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in: — Healthy meal planning using the Diabetic Plate Method; — Reading and understanding nutrition labels — Reducing sugar, fat, and salt without sacrificing flavor; — Incorporating physical activity into daily routines; — Cooking demonstrations and tasting healthy recipes. “Learning how to manage blood sugar levels through a balanced dietary intake and regular physical activity is important to improve current health and reduce the development of complications associated with diabetes,” said Christina Holmes, K-State Extension Dining with Diabetes coordinator. “The Dining with Diabetes program provides participants with the tools, motivation, and support needed to be successful in diabetes management.”
The classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 21, Aug. 28, Sept. 4 and Sept. 11 at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Road, Parsons. Registration is required, and space is limited. To register, contact Katherine Pinto, nutrition, food safety and health agent, [email protected] or 620-232-1930.
